Archaeology Services Lewes (ASL) offer a range of services for below ground archaeology as well as a range of Historic Building Records and Heritage Statements, sometimes referred to as impact assessments. These services are aimed at the construction industry as well as private clients in order to discharge planning conditions or mitigate Listed Building Consent requirements. Our aim is to enable the smooth progression of development.
Sussex Heritage Trust award winners
We were recently informed that three projects we were involved in attracted awards from the Sussex Heritage Trust. St.James the Less, in Lancing, won the 2017 Ecclesiastical category; Tickerage Mill, Blackboys, was highly commended in the 2019 Landscape award and Sussex Square, Brighton, was highly commended in the 2019 small residential award. More recently in 2022, we worked on the refurbishment of The Long Man pub in Wilmington, which was highly commended in the commercial sector. We are very proud to have been included in these awards. In February 2019, The Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA) assessed the quality of our reports and we are very proud to announce that they have specified that we 'produce reports that exceed the standards required' as well as 'producing a high quality result with good background information'. In addition, an article we produced in association with Dr Matt Pope from UCL, was published in CIfA's quarterly magazine (see slideshow and our Facebook page). This kick starts a recent collaborative project to record Palaeolithic flints from Sussex museums. An excellent start to 2019.
What's in a name?
The main office moved from Lewes in 2017 to Boreham Street near Hailsham. We have continued to work under the banner of Archaeology Services Lewes and are still based in East Sussex. You can get in touch with us via the contact page.
Continuing Professional Development
We take training seriously as we believe that learning is a lifelong experience. Courses recently attended include a week long course run by Historic England at Oxford University on understanding Historic buildings. In 2023, ASL's Proprietor, Lisa Fisher, completed an Msc in Building Conservation, through York University based at the Weald and Downland Living Museum in West Sussex.
